Using emoticons for the wrong situation

I don’t know. Maybe it’s just me, but sometimes using emoticons is clearly inappropriate for a situation; the emoticon takes away any serious value and turns it into a joke. I was browsing my feed on facebook and I saw this.

How could you sabotage our relationship like this? I trusted you, and this is what I get? I feel like someone just kicked me in the gut and ran me over with a toyota and then threw me into a dumpster. ;_;

If you took out that sad face, it would have sounded very serious, but then when it is read with the sad face, it’s almost as if it was all a cruel joke. I don’t understand why anyone would put an emoticon at the end of a serious statement.
